Researchers use melamine to create effective, low-cost carbon capture; potential tailpipe application

Green Car Congress

The new material is simple to make, requiring primarily off-the-shelf melamine powder—which today costs about $40 per ton—along with formaldehyde and cyanuric acid, a chemical that, among other uses, is added with chlorine to swimming pools. The low cost of porous melamine means that the material could be deployed widely.

Study finds air pollution and GHG costs of crude-by-rail nearly 2x pipeline costs; much larger than spill and accidents costs

Green Car Congress

Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh have found that the air pollution and greenhouse gas costs of shipping crude by rail are nearly twice as large as those for oil pipelines. Their estimations were also based on The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s 2015 study. Clay et al.
