New analysis finds Asia produces twice as much mercury emissions as previously thought

New analysis by an international team led by MIT researchers shows that Asia now releases a surprisingly large amount of anthropogenic mercury. By their calculations, the researchers estimated that, worldwide, Asia could produce up to 1,770 tons of mercury emissions per year—more than twice the amount estimated by bottom-up models.
