Experian Automotive: total number of light vehicles on US roads at highest level since 2008

Increased new vehicle sales and lower scrappage rates pushed VIO to the highest point on record since Q3 2008. Other findings include: General Motors had the highest share of VIO at 26.6%, followed by Ford (18.9%), Toyota (12.6%) and Chrysler (12.5%). In Q2 2013, more than half (50.9%) of VIO were between model years 2000 and 2008.

Chrysler Group US sales up 10% in December, 21% for 2012; FIAT largest gainer

Chrysler Group LLC reported US sales of 152,367 units in December 2012, a 10% increase compared with sales in December 2011 (138,019 units), and the group’s best December sales since 2007. The Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in December compared with the same month last year.

Report: Chrysler to Show Prototype Electric Fiat 500 at Detroit Auto Show

The Detroit Free Press reports that Chrysler will display a battery-electric version of the Fiat 500 at the upcoming North American International Auto Show. Italy-based Micro-Vett SpA, which produces electric versions of several other Fiat vehicles, has developed an electric version of the 500, unveiled by the NICE car company in 2008.
