EPA Reports Fifth Consecutive Annual Increase in US New Vehicle Fuel Economy; Up 9% Since 2004, Back to Levels of Early 1980s
This marks the first time that data for CO 2 emissions are included in the annual report, Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, and Fuel Economy Trends: 1975 through 2009. mpg, or 9%, since 2004. Sen. Salazar highlights PHEVs: "cornerstone technology"
He said the federal bill puts the nation's "shoulders" behind renewables, but gave the state kudos for passing the renewable energy standard Amendment 37 in 2004 and taking the initiative on other renewable projects. UK Funds Consortium to Demonstrate Lontra Supercharger Technology

What up with GM's Plug-in hybrid Volt?
The auto industry has disappointed before when it comes to green technology. DaimlerChrysler AG promised a production fuel-cell vehicle by 2004, but couldn't deliver despite spending $1 billion on the technology. "GM tries to unplug Volt hype" is not the headline I've been hoping to see out of Motor City this spring.

JGC, INPEX and BASF to Perform Demonstration Tests of New Technology to Capture CO2 from Natural Gas
JGC, INPEX and BASF have entered into an agreement to carry out joint demonstration tests on a new technology for effectively capturing and recovering CO 2 contained in natural gas. JGC and BASF jointly began developing a new technology for a CO 2 capture process called High Pressure Acid Gas Capture Technology ( HiPACT ) in 2004.

Ford CEO: Fuel-Efficient Engines Pose Tough Fight for Hybrids
Ford has built hundreds of thousands of hybrids since 2004, but unlike Toyota, it hasn't staked its future on the pricey technology that mates an electric motor to a combustion engine. Ford's CEO Alan Mulally says that's because hybrids will face continuing competition from increasingly more fuel-efficient engines.
