Today's Junkyard Find is an example of the second type of Marauderization (not to be confused with Moroder ization ) within the world of Ford's Mercury Division. Starting in 1958, Ford's new MEL ( M ercury- E dsel- L incoln) big-block V8 engine was given the Marauder name when installed in Mercury models.

Honda beat everybody to the production gasoline-electric hybrid game in the United States, putting the Insight in showrooms in 1999. If we look at the fine print, GM actually introduced a sort-of-a-hybrid vehicle as a 2004 model , though the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid/GMC Sierra Hybrid didn't have regenerative braking.

Ford Motor Company has produced its 100,000th hybrid SUV and used the milestone to restate its commitment to ramping up production of hybrid vehicles this year. Ford began sales the Ford Escape hybrid in 2004, followed by the Mariner Hybrid in 2005.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. We Promote PHEV Conversion Programs: First CalCars in 2004, then a number of aftermarket companies, have converted over 200 cars — at first most were for fleets, but more and more are going to individual owners.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. Partnering with Alcoa, Duke Energy, Google.org, Johnson Controls Indiana startup plans to unveil vehicle May 2009 at EVS-24 in Norway; mass production in 2012. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.
