EnergyCS had earlier developed one of the first commercial plug-in hybrid conversion kits for the Prius. Founded in 2001, EnergyCS creates, designs and builds monitoring and control systems for large-format, high voltage electrochemical storage systems. CODA had worked with EnergyCS on the development of the CODA Sedan, earlier post.

Put another way, the fuel cell technology is being developed so as to work as components in the MQB (transverse) kit, the development of which is led by the Volkswagen brand, and the MLB (longitudinal) kit being driven by Audi. The easiest conversions are for 2004-2008 Prius (not 2001-2003 Prius) and the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrid. We will have similar solutions available for better (but more expensive) nickel-metal hydride or lithium-ion batteries.) The kit is designed so the batteries can be upgraded to lithium-phosphate.)
